What Skills did you Learn during the Pandemic?

Lockdown is gradually lifting and life is returning to some kind of normal. At last!

To help us positively move forward to a bright new future, first we need to look back and examine how far we’ve come. Notice the new skills we’ve learnt. Recognise how strong we’ve grown. We also need to recognise how resilient we’ve become in getting through such a tumultuous time and congratulate ourselves.

You may not realise it, but you have probably learnt some new skills throughout the pandemic. Whether to benefit your business, keeping it afloat, or within your place of employment, you will have gained new skills and experiences.

What new skills have you developed over this past 14 months?

If you were to consider what the one most important skill you’ve learnt throughout this time is, what would it be and how does it help in your business or career progression? You may well have learnt new skills that are attractive to a new employer.

Can’t think of anything? Then think again. I can almost guarantee that you have learnt at least one new skill:

  • Online technology
  • Increased confidence when talking on the phone or online
  • Knowing what’s needed in a home office
  • How to use a new software system
  • Hosting online meetings
  • A new language

Is it time to rewrite your CV?

Here are some more points to consider as you think about what skills you’ve learnt and how you’ve become stronger:

  • If you were told a year ago, before COVID-19, that most meetings would be run online rather than face to face, what would you have said?
  • Out of the everything you’ve learnt throughout lockdown, where are your strengths now?
  • What is your Number One strength that is beneficial to your business? Or attractive to your current or future employers?

Throughout life, you may have experienced extreme issues where you wondered if you could really cope during that time. And yet, as you’re reading this, I’m guessing that you did.

Now, as lockdown ends, hopefully life will return to a near normal. So, look back and recognise how far you’ve come. Sometimes, we just need to search for the positives and opportunities when enduring hardship. Well done for getting through this!

Now’s the time to turn around and give yourself a pat on the back.
